Amateur astronomers and Star Gazers need a challenge. Beginners can be overwhelmed by long lists of challenging objects, so Astra developed a program to expose observers to a variety of objects that use various instruments, including her favorite old stand by--the human eye. Use the links below to begin observing from the list of your choice.
There is also an observing form that you can use to track your own observations. A PDF containing overview of the observing program, forms for each group, extra information to help you locate objects and a certificate of completion can be downloaded here.
The solar system group must be observed with a telescope.
Binocular objects, of course, must be observed with a pair of binoculars. For steady views, a tripod is preferable.
You'll have to use an instrument to find these objects.
These objects need no instrument - -Just find them with your very own peepers!
Investigate objects in the most exciting part of the sky, the galactic center of the Milky Way!
