No astronomical event is quite as exciting as a few minutes of totality. Because many schools will not be open, many families will be having eclipse parties. We've done some of the legwork to help you make your celebration unique. Don't forget to check out the eclipse safety page for advice on solar glasses be sure your party is safe as well as fun. Don't forget to protect your cell phones and cameras when trying to photograph the eclipse. They are also at risk of sun damage. Only take images at totality or through solar-safe devices.
You need to know exactly when the eclipse occurs in your area. Make sure the view of the Sun is clear of obstructions during the important time. Gather all your equipment and test it out ahead of time. For this eclipse you may need warm clothing. The entire eclipse takes place over 2 -3 hours so you may need to have access to a washroom. Be prepared and set up early.
